About the project

Rankings Built on Results, Not Reputation

CFB Top 25 is an independent college football ranking site. Every week of the season, the same published scoring model is applied to every FBS team, producing a Top 25 that can be compared week to week and season to season.

What you'll find here

  • Weekly rankings for every regular-season week, the postseason, and a final ranking, with each team's record, strength of schedule, point total, and movement from the previous week.
  • A preseason projection before games begin, which fades out of the model entirely by Week 3.
  • A season archive so any past week can be revisited exactly as the model saw it at the time.
  • Filtering by conference to see how a league's teams stack up nationally.
  • Articles from contributors breaking down the rankings, debating results, and covering the wider sport.

Why a points-based model

Polls are shaped by preseason expectations, brand names, and the eye test. CFB Top 25 asks a narrower question: based on the games actually played, which teams have earned the strongest résumés? Wins, the quality of opponents, and how games were won all feed a single score, and the same rules apply to every team. The full methodology is explained on How It Works.

Where the data comes from

Game results, schedules, and team information come from CollegeFootballData.com. Rankings are recalculated from that data rather than entered by hand, so every snapshot is reproducible.

Independence
